Azul Properties is pleased to announce that a major advance has been made in respect of the prestigious Palmeiras Resort project with the issuing of the Alvará de Loteamento Urbano by Tavira Cãmara. This permission allows the first stage of development, the installation of infrastructure and utility services, to proceed forthwith at the site to the north of the EN125 in between Tavira and Cabanas.
The developer, Sorimin S.A., received the licence following a period of public consultation during which objections to the project had been made by Quercus (the National Association for the Conservation of Nature) and by LPN (the League for the Protection of Nature). Tavira Cãmara, however, did not consider that these objections gave grounds to refuse consent for the development.
Throughout the planning application process Sorimin S.A. had been working in close co-operation with the regional authorities, the CCDRA and the Portuguese Tourist Board, all of whom gave support to the development as it would rehabilitate an abandoned area of waste ground close to the town that was of no current use or benefit to the local community. The development of Palmeiras Resort is supported by all relevant public authorities as it will generate significantly improved environmental and socio-economic benefits for the locality and give a boost to tourism in the region as a whole.
After the infrastructure has been built, work on phase 1 of the project proper is scheduled to commence on time at the beginning of 2010. On completion the resort will offer accommodation in seven separate "villages", a five star hotel, sports and leisure facilities and a Beach Club.
